The restaurant is family owned and operated, and it is the result of long time dream by the owner George Liang. George was born on the mainland of China, left with his parents for Taiwan in the early 1960s, then he came to the United States in 1973. He has worked in the restaurant business for over 30 years . George opened his first restaurant in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1981. This was the first ever Hunan restaurant to be followed by three others in Kearney & Hastings, NE and Greeley, Colorado. The restaurant are only owned and operated by the family . Recently, George has decided to semi-retire, and his niece Nancy is taking over. Nancy is no stranger to the restaurant business, she has worked at Hunan since 16 years old. The goal is to maintain their high quality of food and good reputation, also continue to grow the business. The Liang family is committed to serving high quality dishes, using the best and freshest vegetables, meats, and seafood available. George has been known to never compromise on quality even when it means extra cost to the restaurant. Hunan has pride in itself on keeping prices affordable while still serving heaping portions of the best Chinese food around Fort Collins .
